Yes. Section 1 rifle ammunition requires a valid Firearms Certificate (FAC) issued by your local police force, and shotgun cartridges require a Shotgun Certificate (SGC). You must present your certificate in person when collecting, and the quantity purchased must not exceed the conditions on your certificate. Airgun pellets and BBs can be bought by anyone over 18 without a certificate.
Buckshot (LG, SG, SSG) is legal for shotgun certificate holders in the UK but is almost never used for any legitimate sporting purpose. Most UK shotgun certificates are endorsed only for use on inanimate targets or listed quarry species, and buckshot does not typically fall within permitted use. We stock practical shotgun cartridges for IPSC/PSG competition; please check the conditions on your SGC before ordering.
Shotgun slugs are legal for shotgun certificate holders, but the specific uses permitted depend on the conditions printed on your certificate. Slugs are commonly used for practical shotgun competition and for some quarry species where allowed. Always check your SGC wording before purchasing; we can only sell slugs for collection by the certificate holder.
A voluntary transition away from lead shot began in 2020 and the UK government is consulting on a full restriction under REACH, expected to phase in over the mid-2020s. For now, lead shot can still be sold and used outside wetland areas and specific species contexts. Non-toxic steel and bismuth cartridges are available now and we stock them alongside lead options.
Fibre wad cartridges use a biodegradable felt or card wad and are required at most UK clay grounds and on shoots where plastic pollution is a concern. Plastic wad cartridges use a one-piece plastic cup that typically produces tighter patterns and is common in competition loads where permitted. Check your ground's rules before buying a case.
No. We operate a collection-only service for all ammunition. You must collect in person from our Bromsgrove shop and present your SGC or FAC on arrival. We do not offer postal delivery or RFD transfer for ammunition orders.
