Who Uses Gun Storage
- Certificate renewals. If your shotgun or firearm certificate is due to expire before the renewal comes through, store your guns with us until the new certificate arrives.
- Bereavement. When a certificate holder dies, the family often needs somewhere safe and legal for the guns while the estate is sorted out. See storing guns after a death below.
- Moving house. Keep your guns with us while you move and until your new gun cabinet is fitted and approved.
- Holidays and time away. Some shooters would rather not leave guns at home while the house is empty for a long stretch.
- No cabinet at home. If you don't have room for a cabinet, or would rather not keep guns in the house, we can store them for as long as you need.
Price
£5.00 per gun per week, with no minimum term and no booking fee.
Ammunition stored alongside your guns is usually free, as long as there isn't too much of it. Ammunition stored on its own is charged at the same weekly rate as a gun.
How It Works
- Drop off. Bring your guns and certificate into the shop during opening hours, Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 5:30pm. If you're bringing in several guns, give us a call on 01527 831 261 first. If you'd like a gun cleaned or serviced while it's with us, say so now and we'll give you a quote.
- Storage. Your guns are kept in our secure storage, which is police-approved, alarmed and monitored, and covered by CCTV. Every gun is covered by our insurance while it's with us.
- Collection. Collect your guns any time we're open, with no notice needed. The certificate holder must present their certificate. If you're collecting more than three guns, a call beforehand is appreciated so we can have them ready.
Storing Guns After a Death
When a certificate holder dies, their guns need to go somewhere safe and legal. Contact the police firearms licensing team for the area first. They usually give a family member a temporary permit to move the guns, and in some cases they bring the guns to us themselves.
Once the police have given permission, a family member can bring the guns in for storage. They stay here, insured, while the estate is sorted out and the family decides what to do with them.
If the guns are not being kept, we can dispose of them, or send them on to another dealer.
Other Services While Your Guns Are With Us
- Servicing and cleaning. We can clean or service a gun while it's in storage. Ask when you drop it off and we'll quote you.
- Transfer to another dealer. We can send a stored gun to another registered firearms dealer once any outstanding storage fees are paid. It costs £50.00: £25.00 admin and £25.00 postage.
- Disposal. If you no longer want a gun, we can dispose of it for £25.00. We waive the fee if we can salvage anything from it.
Storing Guns at Home
If you'd rather keep your guns at home, they need to be in a secure gun cabinet that meets your certificate conditions. We stock a range of shotgun and rifle safes and ammunition safes, and many people store their guns with us while a new cabinet is delivered and fitted.
