Quoted maximums assume a large, reflective target in good light. Deer-sized quarry in rain or failing light will range noticeably shorter. The Hawke LRF1500 and Kahles Helia RF-M both include filtering for rain and foreground clutter, which matters more in practice than the headline distance figure.
If you shoot up or down steep ground, yes. The Kahles Helia RF-M uses patented EAC angle compensation and the Hawke LRF1500 has a horizontal distance mode, both giving you the distance the bullet actually has to carry rather than line of sight. The LRF800 includes an angle mode too.
