The A-Tec Marksman Muzzle Brake 18x1 is a black nitrided steel brake that mounts permanently on the muzzle and stays timed to your rifle. Its outer thread is built specifically to take the A-Tec Marksman PRS Sound Moderator over the top, so you can switch between brake-only and moderated setups in seconds without removing the brake or disturbing your zero. M18x1 is a common thread on rifles such as the Blaser R8 and several Bergara and precision actions, so check the thread cut on your own barrel before ordering. Supplied with a timing nut and fitting tool.

Description

Key Features:

  • Black nitrided finish for a hard, corrosion-resistant surface that holds up to field and range use

  • M18x1 outer thread built specifically to accept the A-Tec Marksman PRS Sound Moderator without removing the brake

  • Stays permanently fitted and timed to the barrel, so the moderator can be added or removed in seconds

  • Supplied with a timing nut and fitting tool for correct alignment on installation

  • No certificate or paperwork needed to buy or fit the brake on its own

  • Two flat milled surfaces for spanner torquing during fitment

The A-Tec Marksman Muzzle Brake 18x1 is the M18x1-threaded version of A-Tec's Marksman brake-and-moderator system. Rather than being a standalone recoil brake, it's designed to stay permanently fitted and timed to your rifle's muzzle, with its outer thread cut specifically to take the A-Tec Marksman PRS Sound Moderator over the top. That means you can run the brake on its own for load development or bench work, then add the moderator in seconds for stalking or a shared firing point, without re-zeroing.

The brake is black nitrided, a finish A-Tec describes as "diamond hard", which holds up well to the knocks a muzzle device takes over a season of field use. Fitting is a multi-stage process: the thread inlet is screwed into the brake and backed off a turn, the contra nut is torqued up, the assembly is threaded onto the muzzle and torqued using the two milled flats, then the contra nut is loosened, the brake indexed and torqued up again. A timing nut and fitting tool are supplied for this.

M18x1 is a widely used rifle thread, found on rifles including the Blaser R8, several Bergara actions and some precision rifle setups, so this brake is a reasonable fit for owners of those platforms as well as any rifle factory-threaded or gunsmith-cut to M18x1. Confirm the thread stamped on your own barrel, or check your rifle's manual, before ordering: A-Tec also offers the Marksman brake in other metric and imperial threads for different rifles.

Product Information

Do I need a licence to buy this muzzle brake?

No. A muzzle brake on its own isn't a certificated item and can be bought and fitted without any paperwork. A certificate only comes into play if you later add the A-Tec Marksman PRS moderator, which requires a current FAC or SGC covering a suitable rifle.

Will this fit my rifle?

It's cut to an M18x1 thread, which is used on rifles including the Blaser R8 and several Bergara and precision actions. Check the thread stamped on your own barrel, or your rifle's manual, before ordering, since A-Tec also makes this brake in other metric and imperial threads.

Can I fit the A-Tec Marksman PRS moderator over this brake?

Yes. The outer thread is specifically designed for the Marksman PRS moderator to screw on over the top, so the brake stays permanently fitted and timed while the moderator goes on and off in seconds.

Do I need to remove the brake to shoot without the moderator?

No. The brake is designed to stay on the rifle permanently. You simply leave the moderator off when you don't need it, and there's no re-zeroing when you switch between the two.

What does the fitting process involve?

It's a multi-step job: the thread inlet is screwed into the brake, the contra nut is torqued up, the assembly is threaded onto the muzzle and torqued via the two milled flats, then the brake is indexed and torqued again. A timing nut and fitting tool are supplied.
