Red dots earn their place on air pistols and airsoft for one reason: they let you shoot with both eyes open and get on target faster than irons. The RDS 8 covers that brief at the budget end without cutting the corners that matter.
It runs an 8 MOA dot, a chunky aiming point that suits quick work at close to mid range (plinking, target practice, airsoft skirmishing) rather than precision at distance. Two brightness settings handle most conditions, and the multi-coated glass keeps the picture clean at 1x magnification.
The detail worth paying for is the integrated auxiliary rear sight. When the dot is off, or the CR1632 finally dies mid-session, a backup iron picks up so you are not left aiming through a blank window. The battery loads from the bottom, so changing it doesn't mean pulling the sight and re-zeroing.
Mounting is the other strong point. The C-More footprint and included Picatinny mount drop straight onto Umarex optic adapter plates and any optic-ready or MOS air pistol. Parallax-free at 10 metres and rated to take .22 LR recoil, it will sit happily on a rimfire too.
A sensible first red dot for an optic-ready airgun, and a low-cost way to add one to an airsoft setup.
