22 WMR sits between 22LR and 17 HMR, hitting harder than 22LR at range while costing less per round than 17 HMR. It's a solid choice for rabbit and vermin control out to around 125 yards, especially from a bolt-action or semi-auto chambered for the calibre. We carry a focused range from CCI, Hornady and Remington, including Hornady's 30gr V-Max for flatter-shooting varmint work.
22 WMR uses a heavier bullet than 17 HMR (30–40gr vs 17gr) at lower velocity, trading some flat trajectory for more retained energy and better performance through cover, useful if you're taking rabbits in longer grass or hedgerow edges. Compared to 22LR, it hits harder and flatter at range but costs more per round, so it suits dedicated pest control more than high-volume plinking.
We keep a focused range of proven loads from CCI, Hornady and Remington. See our 17 HMR or 22LR ranges if you need something outside 22 WMR. As with all rimfire ammunition, a valid firearms certificate is required and collection is in person from our Bromsgrove shop, we can't post or courier ammunition under UK law.
Yes. 22 WMR (Winchester Magnum Rimfire) and .22 Magnum are the same cartridge, just different names for it. You'll see both used interchangeably by manufacturers and retailers.
Yes. 22 WMR is a rimfire calibre requiring a valid FAC covering that specific round. Bring your original certificate to collect, we can't accept photos or copies.
No. UK law requires all rimfire ammunition to be collected in person with your FAC checked against the calibre and quantity. We don't offer postal or courier delivery on any ammunition.
22 WMR carries a heavier bullet with more retained energy, useful in cover or against slightly larger quarry. 17 HMR is flatter-shooting and cheaper per round, better suited to longer, more open shots.
