Full length sizing is what sets this kit apart from a neck sizer. Every case goes back to standard dimensions, so brass from different rifles, mixed batches and range pickups all chamber reliably. For anyone reloading the 45-70 without a carefully sorted supply of once-fired cases, that is the safer starting point.
The set covers the full process in three dies. The steel sizing die resizes and decaps, the powder through expanding die opens and bells the case mouth while dropping the charge, and the micrometer bullet seating die sets depth with a clear, repeatable adjustment. As with any steel sizing die, cases need lubricating before sizing.
Lee supplies these 45-70 dies with a universal shell holder, powder measure and instructions with load data, so the box contains everything needed beyond a press and components. Shooters using flat nose projectiles can add Lee's flat nose seating screw for better contact with the bullet. Hornady LEVERevolution cases need the dedicated LEVERevolution factory crimp die, sold separately.
