The full three-module build of the A-TEC H3 moderator, rated at 30 dB(C) and threaded 5/8x24 UNEF for 30 calibre rifles. Drop a module when you want a shorter, lighter setup on the hill.
Key Features:
Three-module configuration rated at 30 dB(C), the quietest build in the H3 range
Strips down to two modules for 27 dB(C) in a shorter, lighter package
Over-barrel design adds only 150 mm to the rifle's overall length
5/8x24 UNEF thread suits 30 calibre barrels cut to the American pattern
Stainless steel thread mount and diffusor with aluminium modules at 412 g
Clearance for barrels up to 23.7 mm diameter at the muzzle
The three-module build is the quietest configuration in the Hertz H3 range, rated at 30 dB(C) with everything fitted. This one is cut 5/8x24 UNEF and bored for 30 calibre, so it suits .308, .30-06 and 6.5 mm rifles threaded to the American pattern rather than the metric threads more common on European barrels.
It is an over-barrel design. Eighty millimetres of the body sits back over the muzzle, so only 150 mm is added to the rifle's overall length despite a 230 mm total. Weight is 412 g and outside diameter is 49.4 mm, with clearance for barrels up to 23.7 mm at the muzzle. The thread mount and diffusor are stainless steel and the modules are aluminium, which keeps the weight sensible for a full-bore moderator.
The modularity is the useful part. Strip a module off and you drop to 27 dB(C) with a shorter, lighter unit for walked-up days or working out of a vehicle, then rebuild it for the range or a static high seat. A-TEC rates the H3 as an improvement on the H2 it replaces for cold barrel and first-round performance.
Worth a look for stalkers who want one moderator that can be short or quiet depending on the day.

The muzzle needs a 5/8x24 UNEF thread and a barrel diameter of no more than 23.7 mm where the moderator sits back over it. Because 80 mm of the body runs back over the barrel, check the profile behind the thread as well as at the crown. Metric threaded barrels need one of the other versions.
This one is bored for 30 calibre, so it covers .308 Winchester, 7.62x51, .30-06 and the smaller centrefire bores beneath it. It will not take .338 or larger. A-TEC build the H3 in .224, .264, .30, .338, .375 and .458, so if you need a bigger bore the same moderator exists in a different version.
Module count. The H3-3 is the full three-module build at 30 dB(C), the quietest of the three. The H3-2 runs two modules at 27 dB(C) and is 41 mm shorter and 75 g lighter. The single-module H3-1 is shorter again and the least effective. The modules are interchangeable, so a three can be run as a two.
You no longer need a variation. Since 29 June 2026 moderators have been off firearms licensing controls in England, Wales and Scotland, so there is no application, fee or wait before you take one home. You do still need to hold a current firearms or shotgun certificate to possess a moderator intended for a Section 1 rifle.
The full build weighs 412 g and measures 230 mm, but 80 mm of that sits back over the barrel, so the rifle only gets 150 mm longer. Outside diameter is 49.4 mm. On a full-bore stalking rifle that is noticeable at the muzzle but not unusual for a moderator of this capability.
Yes, that is the point of the design. Taking one module off gives you the 27 dB(C) two-module configuration in a shorter, lighter unit for walked-up days or working out of a vehicle, and it goes back on for the range or a static high seat. No tools or extra parts are needed beyond the modules themselves.
