The HIKMICRO Alpex 4K Lite A40E is a 450 g digital day and night scope built for air rifles, with a 4K sensor, 40 mm F2.0 lens and 2 m close focus. This is the non-LRF model.
This is the scope for anyone who has put off digital night vision because every option looked like a length of drainpipe. At 280 mm and under half a kilo it sits in ordinary 30 mm rings and balances on a sporter or a bullpup the way a normal telescopic sight does, which is most of the argument for it.
It is built around close and medium range pest control. The 2 m minimum focus and the wide field of view at 3.5x are for rats in a barn and rabbits at 30 m rather than a fox at the far end of a field. The 800 m figure HikMicro quotes is daylight detection: the sensor registers something at that distance, it does not mean you can identify it. Treat it as a headline, not a shooting distance.
In daylight and at dusk it works as a colour scope with nothing added. Once it is properly dark, add an IR torch. HikMicro lists its own torch and bracket as accessories, and there is a Smart IR setting that tames the overexposure a bright torch causes on close targets. The controls are worth knowing. Everything lives on the top turret: a wheel for zoom and menus and three buttons for capture, mode and menu, with a lock to stop the wheel moving in a slip. A short press of the power button drops the scope into standby and a tilt wakes it. Zeroing is the usual one-shot freeze method and it runs at 50 fps, so set the frame rate before you start. The internal battery charges over USB-C and the 18650 charges in its own cradle.
If you want a laser rangefinder and ballistic calculator, that is the A40EL Alpex 4K Lite LRF, which adds 24 g and a taller body. For a sub-12 ft lb air rifle doing pest control at sensible distances, the A40E does everything most people will ask of it and is the lightest scope in the HikMicro range while doing so. The A40EL adds a laser rangefinder reading from 3 m to 1,000 m within 1 m, and a ballistic calculator that uses it. Sensor, lens, display, zoom and recording are identical. The A40EL weighs 474 g against 450 g, is 9 mm taller and runs 7 hours rather than 7.5. If you shoot at known distances, the A40E is the sensible choice.
Standard 30 mm rings. There is no proprietary mount, so any two-piece or one-piece 30 mm set for your rail will fit. HikMicro notes that on some rail layouts you may not get a full view of the display, and recommends a reach-back or extended ring in that case. Check eye position on your rifle before final tightening.
HikMicro quotes 800 m detection in daylight. Detection means the sensor registers something at that range, not that you can tell what it is. Practical identification distance is far shorter and at night depends entirely on the IR torch you fit. The scope is designed for close and medium range pest control, where the 2 m minimum focus matters more than the headline figure.
Up to 7.5 hours continuous at 25 degrees with the hotspot off, from the internal lithium cell and the removable 18650 together. The scope draws on the external battery first. Only the internal battery charges over USB-C, so the 18650 goes in its own charger. Carrying a spare 18650 is the simplest way to cover a long night.
