Description

Key Features:

  • 1/2"x20 UNF thread for .270, .308 and .30-06 rifles

  • Telescopic over-barrel design adds only 108 mm forward of the muzzle

  • 334 g all-in keeps the rifle balanced for walked-up stalking

  • Around 30 dB of sound reduction from a 235 mm overall length

  • Anodised high-quality aluminium construction with a non-reflective finish

  • 49.1 mm diameter clears most sporter profiles and scope objectives

Anyone who has carried a full-length can up a hill knows the problem: sound reduction usually costs you handling. The X108 answers that with a telescopic design that sleeves back over the barrel, so a 235 mm moderator only extends 108 mm past the muzzle. At 334 g it barely shifts the point of balance, which makes a real difference on a long day in the hills.

Sound reduction comes in at around 30 dB, which is a serious figure for something this compact. The 49.1 mm body is slim enough to clear most sporter barrels and sits well under a normally-mounted scope. Construction is anodised aluminium with a matt, non-reflective surface.

This is the .270/.30 calibre version threaded 1/2"x20 UNF, covering .270, .308 and .30-06 among others. Check the thread on your barrel before ordering, as the X108 is sold thread-specific rather than with adaptors.

A sound pick for the stalker who wants meaningful noise reduction without turning a handy rifle into an unwieldy one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a firearms certificate to buy the Stalon X108?

You need a valid firearms or shotgun certificate to hold a moderator intended for a Section 1 rifle. Since 29 June 2026 it no longer needs to be listed on your certificate and no variation is required, so there is no slot to apply for and no waiting. The moderator itself is no longer classed as a firearm.

Will the X108 fit my rifle?

This version is threaded 1/2"x20 UNF. Check the thread stamped on your barrel or in your rifle's manual before ordering, as the X108 is supplied thread-specific rather than with adaptors. The X108 is also available in M14x1, M15x1, M17x1, M18x1 and 5/8" UNF and UNEF. If you are unsure what you have, give us a ring.

What calibres does the .270/.30cal version cover?

It is built for centrefire calibres up to .30, which includes .270, .308 and .30-06. Stalon also make the X108 in a .204/.222/.223 group and a .243/6.5 group. A moderator sized closer to your calibre will generally be quieter, so pick the tightest group your rifle fits.

Over-barrel or muzzle-mounted, which is better?

Neither is strictly better, it depends what you value. An over-barrel design like the X108 sleeves back over the barrel, so a 235 mm moderator only adds 108 mm to the rifle's length and keeps the weight closer to your hands. A muzzle-mounted can puts all its baffles forward of the muzzle, which usually buys a little more sound reduction at the cost of length and muzzle-heavy handling. If you carry your rifle a lot, over-barrel wins. If you shoot mostly from a bench or a high seat, the trade-off matters less. Over-barrel designs also need the barrel kept clean and lightly oiled under the moderator.

How do I clean a Stalon X108?

The X108 is a sealed unit and is not user-strippable. Keep the outside clean, dry it after wet days, and pay attention to the barrel section that sits inside the moderator, since trapped moisture there is what causes problems on over-barrel designs. Remove it after use rather than storing the rifle moderated.

Is a moderator the same as a silencer or suppressor?

Same thing, different word. "Sound moderator" is the standard UK term and the one used in firearms legislation. "Silencer" and "suppressor" are more common in the US. None of them make a rifle silent, they reduce the report to a level that is comfortable without ear defenders.
