The Hawke Frontier 34 FFP 5-30x56 MRAD Mil Pro Reticle Rifle Scope pairs a first focal plane mil reticle with 1/10 MRAD turrets for long-range target shooting.
The Hawke Frontier 34 FFP 5-30x56 MRAD Mil Pro Reticle Rifle Scope is a long-range target scope built as a mil-on-mil system. Ten clicks on the turret moves the point of impact exactly one mil on the reticle, so you can measure a miss against the hash marks and dial that figure straight on. With the reticle in the first focal plane, that holds at any magnification.
It suits centre-fire and precision rimfire rifles shot from a bipod or bench: long-range target work, and varminting or foxing from a fixed position. At its size it is a lot to carry all day, so for walked-up stalking a lighter second focal plane hunting scope is the better choice.
Plan the mounting first. It needs 34mm rings, and the long eye relief places the scope further forward than many shooters expect, so check there is enough rail to get it in the right place. Focus the eyepiece on the reticle against a plain sky and lock the ring before touching the side focus, then set the zero stop once the rifle is zeroed.
It comes with a full Hawke Optics accessory set, including metal flip-up covers, a 4 inch sunshade, a removable zoom lever and a CR2032 battery for the illumination. If your ballistic data is in MOA, the MOA Pro Ext version is the one to pick.

Both are the Frontier 34 FFP 5-30x56 with the same zoom range and 56 mm objective. The difference is the unit: this version pairs the Mil Pro Ext reticle with 1/10 MRAD turrets, the other pairs the MOA Pro Ext reticle with MOA turrets. Pick the one that matches your ballistic app, your data book and whoever spots for you, because mixing units is where dialling mistakes start.
It is built for precision shooting from a rest: long-range target work, and varminting or foxing from a fixed position on a centre-fire or precision rimfire rifle. The 5x bottom end is wide enough to find a target quickly, and 30x gives the detail to read small steel or paper at distance.
You need 34mm rings, not the more common 30mm or 1 inch size. Choose a ring height that clears the 56 mm objective with the sunshade fitted, and check your rail is long enough, as the 102 mm eye relief tends to put this scope further forward than shorter-eye-relief scopes.
The reticle sits in the first focal plane, so it grows and shrinks with the image as you change magnification. Each mil on the reticle is a true mil at 5x, 30x and everything between, so holdovers and range estimates work without first winding to a set power.
