The Hawke Vantage HD 30 1-8x24 IR Tactical BDC is the holdover option in this 1-8x24 line-up, for shooters who would rather have marked aim points than guess at drop. The reticle is built around 5.56 ballistics, which for most UK shooters means a .223 Remington straight-pull or bolt-action rifle held on a firearms certificate.
It is a second focal plane reticle, so the BDC marks hold true at 8x. That matches how an LPVO gets used in practice: 1x and the illuminated dot for quick, close shots, wound up to 8x when there is time to use the holdovers. The recommended routine is an initial zero at 50 yards, then confirming at 200 yards so the lower marks line up with your load. The aim points can also be reworked for other cartridges, or for metres, by changing the magnification. Worth proving on paper before trusting it on a fox.
If you mostly shoot one load at short, known distances, the Vantage HD 30 1-8x24 L4A Dot or the Circle Dot version does the same job with a cleaner picture.
Parallax is fixed at 100 yards, so there is nothing to adjust when quarry moves. The scope is nitrogen purged, waterproof, fog proof and rated for all calibres, and comes with lens covers, a CR2032 battery and the zoom lever.
A sound choice for a .223 rifle that does double duty on the range and on foxes, where shots run from close quarters to a couple of hundred yards.
