Thermal has come down in price faster than most shooters expected, and the Hikmicro Neos range is a fair illustration of where that leaves things. This is the middle model of three: a 320 x 240 sensor with NETD below 18mK, a 25 mm F1.0 lens, 50Hz refresh and detection out to 1200 m. The step up from the entry level 256 x 192 model is a real one, but the laser rangefinder and ballistic calculator are what most people are actually paying the difference for.
The rangefinder reads to 1000 m with plus or minus 1 m accuracy and feeds the ballistic solver directly, which matters more on a rimfire than people tend to expect. A .22 LR drops enough between 60 and 100 yards that guessing costs you rabbits. Being able to range and get a corrected aim point without coming off the target is the practical argument for this model over the cheaper one.
Magnification runs 3.5x to 24.5x, and the base 3.5x is the setting you will spend most of your time on: wide enough to sweep a hedgerow, sharp enough to identify what you are looking at before committing. Zoom Pro processing keeps the image together as you go up. Viewing is through a 0.49 inch AMOLED with six palettes, and the shutterless system means no periodic freeze while quarry is on the move.
The practical details are sensible. It weighs 550 g and mounts in ordinary 30 mm rings, so it sits on a rifle like a day scope rather than a brick. Power comes from an internal cell plus a replaceable 18650, giving around nine hours with the rangefinder running. Best suited to air rifle and rimfire pest control where ranging genuinely earns its keep. For longer foxing work, the 35 mm model is the better fit.

A compact thermal riflescope with a 320 x 240 sensor, 25 mm F1.0 lens and a built in laser rangefinder feeding an onboard ballistic calculator. It sits in the middle of the three model Neos range, above the 256 x 192 NE25 and below the 384 x 288 NH35L. Base magnification is 3.5x, and it mounts in standard 30 mm rings.
Not in the way most people read it. That figure is the distance at which the sensor can register a heat signature, typically a deer sized target, under good conditions. It is not the range at which you can tell what the animal is, and it is certainly not a shooting range. Expect useful identification at a fraction of that. Detection, recognition and identification are three different numbers, and manufacturers quote the flattering one.
The Neos is built on the compact 30 mm chassis from the Alpex Lite, using thermal technology derived from the Stellar 3.0 line at a lower price. Stellar 3.0 uses more sensitive sensors, sub 15mK against sub 18mK here, with higher resolutions and a much larger 1.03 inch display. The Neos trades that for a lighter, smaller scope and a considerably lower cost.
Lens size first, sensor second. The 25 mm lens here gives a wider field of view suited to rats, rabbits and closer fox work, which is where most air rifle and rimfire shooting happens. The 35 mm model narrows the view but reaches further, making it the better choice for open ground foxing and centrefire distances. Both carry the rangefinder and ballistic calculator, so that is not the deciding factor.
It is rated to 1000g/0.4ms recoil resistance, so it will survive centrefire use. Whether it is comfortable is a separate question. The compact chassis often needs mounting well back, and for heavier recoiling rifles the larger bodied Stellar 3.0 generally gives a more forgiving shooting position. For air rifle, rimfire and lighter centrefire work it is well matched.
It reads from 10 m to 1000 m with an accuracy of plus or minus 1 m, using a Class 1 905 nm laser. The reading feeds the onboard ballistic calculator directly, so you can range a target and get a corrected aim point without coming off the scope.
