The HIKMICRO Thunder TE25 2.0 is a 256 x 192 thermal rifle scope with a 25 mm F1.0 lens, 3.3x base magnification and 1,200 m detection. Built for foxing over open ground.
The TE25 2.0 is the open-ground option among HIKMICRO's 256-sensor scopes. The 25 mm lens trades some width for reach: at 3.3x base you get a usable image of a fox on the far side of a field, and the 8x digital zoom lets you check for a second animal before committing. Detection at 1,200 m means the sensor registers a warm body at that distance. Recognising what it is happens a good deal closer, and identifying a fox with confidence closer still, so treat the headline figure as a spotting number rather than a shooting one.
Focus is by a ring on the objective rather than a top-mounted wheel, so you set it for the distance you expect to shoot at and leave it alone. The 0.5 m minimum focus is useful for checking the picture against your hand before you head out. The battery charges in the scope over USB-C or in a separate charger, and a spare in a pocket covers a long night. Wi-Fi hotspot and the Sight app give you live view on a phone if someone else wants to watch.
Who it suits: rimfire or centrefire foxing and pest control where the shots are 80 m and beyond. The recoil rating means it is not confined to rimfire. If most of your shooting is in woodland or inside 100 m, the 19 mm Thunder 2.0 TE19 gives a wider view at lower base magnification and is the better fit. Thermal finds animals, night vision identifies them. A thermal scope like the TE25 shows a warm body against a cold field with no infrared illuminator and works through light mist. Digital night vision gives a more natural image for judging what you are looking at but needs an illuminator. For foxing over open ground, thermal is the more common choice.
Detection is the distance at which the sensor registers a warm object as a blob. It does not mean you can tell what the object is. Recognising a fox as a fox happens much closer, and identifying it with confidence closer again. Use the figure to compare scopes with each other, not to plan a shot.
HIKMICRO quotes over 10 hours at 25°C with the hotspot off. Cold nights and Wi-Fi use will shorten that. The 18650 pack is replaceable, charges in the scope over USB-C or in a separate charger, and a spare in your pocket takes you through a full night without going back to the vehicle.
