Swarovski's tM 35+ pairs a 640x512 sensor with a 21.6 m field of view at 100 m. Clip it to a Swarovski scope with no re-zeroing, or scan at 2x from the hand.
Two jobs, one unit. In the hand the tM 35+ is a wide-angle thermal spotter for finding what is out there. Clamped in front of a Swarovski scope it becomes a clip-on that shoots to the scope's existing zero, because the clip-on view is 1x on the scope's own axis. The swap takes seconds with the matching tMA adapter, no tools, no re-zero.
The wide field is the point of this model. At 21.6 m across at 100 m you sweep a field margin in one pass rather than three, which suits foxing and open ground where movement is what gives an animal away. If your ground is tight woodland and you want more reach from the hand, the tM 35.2 with its 4x observation mode is the better fit.
Focus is automatic, so there is no wheel to set and one less thing to do in the dark. Four buttons cover everything. SWAROLIGHT wakes the unit when you raise it and sleeps it when you lower it, and display brightness sets itself so you are not dazzled. White Hot and Black Hot only, and no recording. It is a tool rather than a camera, and it is quicker for that.
Clip-on fit depends on your scope's objective diameter, so check it against the tMA adapter range, and give a wide moderator close to the objective a second look before you order. No certificate is needed for the thermal itself. Night shooting of deer in England and Wales needs a specific licence and Natural England's licences do not permit thermal rifle sights, so for deer this earns its keep at first and last light. Field of view and sensor. The tM 35+ carries a 640x512 sensor and a 21.6 m field at 100 m with 2x hand-held magnification. The 35.2 has a 320x256 sensor, a 10.9 m field and 4x. The 35.2 also runs longer, 9 hours against 6.5. Pick the 35+ for scanning open ground, the 35.2 for picking out detail at range from a fixed position.
Swarovski lists the dS, Z8i and Z8i+, Z6i and X5i, fitted through a tMA or tMA+ thermal monocular adapter sized to the scope's objective, such as the 50 mm and 56 mm versions. The adapter clamps to the objective bell and the tM 35+ locks onto it, so buy the adapter that matches your scope's front lens diameter, not its tube.
No. It has no reticle and no zeroing of its own. As a clip-on it sits in front of a conventional Swarovski scope and sends a 1x thermal image down the scope's axis, so you aim with the scope's existing reticle at its existing zero. If you want a stand-alone thermal riflescope, that is a different category of device.
