Swarovski's tM 35.2 is a thermal clip-on and hand-held viewer in one. Clip it to a Swarovski scope with no re-zeroing, or scan at 4x from the hand.
One unit doing two jobs is the point. Scan from the hand on the walk in, then push it onto the scope for the shot, without carrying a separate spotter. In clip-on mode only the central section of the display is used, so a scope starting at 3.5x or lower sees the full field of view rather than a crop of it. Z8i, Z6i, Z5(i), Z3 and dS series scopes fit via the tMA adapter, sized to the objective (50 mm and 56 mm versions are sold separately), and Swarovski's 4 cm guarantee applies to that pairing. On another maker's scope through the universal QR adapter, check your zero before trusting it.
Two things to know before ordering. The tM 35.2 calibrates with a shutter, so the image freezes briefly with an audible click after switch-on or a change in temperature. If a silent unit at the hide matters more to you, the 640x512 tM 35+ is shutterless and sees twice as wide, though it offers 2x from the hand and 6.5 hours of battery rather than 9. The second is that there is no dioptre adjustment, only a twist eyecup, so glasses wearers keep them on.
Otherwise it is built to be used by feel: 32 brightness steps that dim low enough not to dazzle, a memory for your day, twilight and night settings, and a hand strap that fits either side. It suits hide and woodland work at typical UK stalking ranges, where the tighter 4x view helps you make out what you are looking at.

Sensor and view. The tM 35.2 has a 320x256 sensor, 4x hand-held magnification, a 10.9 m wide field at 100 m and shutter calibration. The tM 35+ has 640x512, 2x hand-held, 21.6 m at 100 m and shutterless calibration, with 6.5 hours of battery against 9. Pick the 35.2 for detail at moderate range from a hide, the 35+ for scanning open ground quietly.
Not on a Swarovski scope with the tMA adapter. Swarovski guarantees the mean point of impact moves no more than 4 cm at 100 m with the unit on or off, provided it is in 1x clip-on mode. Switch it out of hand-held 4x mode before shooting, as that can shift the point of impact. On other scopes, confirm zero yourself.
Swarovski lists the dS, Z8i, Z6i, Z5(i) and Z3 series, attached with a tMA adapter matched to your scope's objective diameter. The adapter is sold separately, so order the size for your scope. The unit carries an M44x0.75 thread that the adapter screws to. For other makes, the tMA QR universal adapter is the route, without the point of impact guarantee.
Swarovski quotes 9 hours from the removable RB tM 35.2 battery. It charges outside the unit in the supplied RBC charger from a USB power supply of at least 2 A, reaching 90% in about 3.5 hours and full in 5. The battery ships part-charged, so give it a full charge before the first outing. A spare swaps in by feel in the dark.
Yes. Hold the mode button for two seconds and it switches to 4x hand-held mode using the whole display. The field of view is the same as in clip-on mode, you simply see it larger. SWAROLIGHT's tilt sensor works in the hand as well as on the rifle, and White Hot or Black Hot is a short press away.
