Description

Key Features:

  • 50mm F0.9 lens on the CQ50L 2.0 reaches 2,600m detection range for open ground and long hedgerows

  • 640 x 512 sensor at sub-15mK NETD separates a warm animal from cold background in rain, fog and frost

  • Built-in laser rangefinder reads to 1,000m at plus or minus 1m and shows horizontal as well as straight-line distance

  • 2.7x base magnification with 8x digital zoom holds detail through Zoom Pro processing rather than stretching pixels

  • 0.49-inch 1920 x 1080 OLED display reduces eye fatigue across long sessions in the dark

  • Rear focus wheel sits under the fingertip so focusing, ranging and palette changes stay one-handed

  • Replaceable 21700 battery runs 6.5 hours with wifi, Zoom Pro and rangefinder active, with USB-C power bank support

The 50 mm lens buys reach and costs field of view. At 8.7 degrees horizontal the picture is noticeably tighter than the 35 mm version, so sweeping a wood edge takes longer and picking up something moving close in is harder work. That is the trade for registering a deer-sized animal out at 2,600 m, and the deciding question is usually whether your ground is open or wooded.

Be clear that detection is not identification. A signature at the far end of that range tells you something warm is present, not what it is, and useful identification distance is a fraction of the headline figure on any thermal unit.

The rangefinder is the reason to choose this over a plain observation monocular. Confirming distance before committing removes most of the guesswork on unfamiliar ground, and the horizontal readout earns its place on sloping land where the straight-line figure flatters you. Minimum focus is 5 m, which is long, so treat it as an observation instrument rather than something for close work.

For deer management, foxing over large fields and general night observation, this is the one in the range for open country. If your permission is close and wooded, the 35 mm Condor CQ35L 2.0 gives a wider view and quicker acquisition. Worth handling the cylindrical HikMicro Falcon 2.0 alongside it too, since the Condor's hand-cradling shape suits some people and not others. Both sit within our wider thermal optics range.

Product Information

What is the difference between the Condor CQ50L 2.0 and the CQ35L 2.0?

Both use the same 640 x 512 sub-15mK sensor. The CQ50L 2.0 runs a 50mm F0.9 lens, 2.7x base magnification and 2,600m detection range. The 35mm CQ35L 2.0 runs F1.0, 1.9x base and 1,800m, with a wider 12.5 degree field of view. Choose the 50mm for open ground, the 35mm for woodland and close cover.

What is the difference between the HikMicro Falcon 2.0 and the Condor 2.0?

Body shape and rangefinding, mainly. The Condor LRF 2.0 uses a hand-cradling ergonomic shell with an integrated rangefinder and a rear focus wheel for one-handed use. The Falcon 2.0 keeps the traditional cylindrical monocular form. Sensor performance is closely comparable, so the choice usually comes down to how each one sits in your hand.

How far can the Condor CQ50L 2.0 actually identify an animal?

The 2,600m figure is a detection range, meaning the sensor registers a warm object of roughly deer size. Identifying the species, or judging a beast properly, takes considerably less distance. Treat detection as confirmation that something is there and expect to close the gap or zoom in before making any decision.

How accurate is the built-in rangefinder?

It is a Class 1 905nm unit reading to 1,000m with plus or minus 1m accuracy and a 10m minimum, and it works independently of light level. It also displays horizontal distance alongside straight-line distance, which matters when ranging up or down a slope where the direct figure overstates the ground you would actually cover.

How long does the battery last, and can it be changed in the field?

HikMicro rate the replaceable 21700 cell at 6.5 hours or more with wifi, Zoom Pro and the rangefinder all running, so lighter use stretches further. Spares swap without tools. The USB-C port also accepts an ordinary power bank as an external supply if you would rather not carry a second cell.
